The Labor Code of the Philippines, also known as the Labor Act of the Philippines or the Workmen's Compensation Act of the Philippines, is a codification of the workmen's compensation scheme that has been in force in the Philippines since 1898. It was originally enacted by the Spanish-colonial government and later amended by the American colonial government. It was first published in 1927.
The law applies to all private sector workers in the Philippines, including domestic workers, part-time workers, and temporary or permanent workers. It also applies to federal government workers, government-owned corporations, and private companies that are covered by the National Labor Relations Act of the United States.
The law covers various aspects of employment, including hiring and firing, working hours and pay, benefits, and the right to unionize. It also provides a mechanism for resolving disputes and it sets rules for the organization and membership in labor unions, as well as for collective bargaining.
